Nick Fletcher is a ceramic born in Nashville, Tennessee. He received his Bachelor degree in Fine Arts from the Appalachian Center for Craft at Tennessee Tech University. He has been working with clay for over a decade
Nick uses high fire stoneware as well as porcelain. Most of his work on the wheel where the parts are thrown than later assembled and altered. His forms are inspired by minimalist and modernist design often including repeating familiar shapes that come together create a foreign and intriguing form. He incorporates atmospheric firing methods including wood, soda, and salt to promote a weathered surface. His hope is to that the contrast between the form and surface promote an archaic narrative and a retro-futuristic aesthetic.
Nick recently moved to San Marcos, TX at the beginning of 2020 to pursue a career as a full time studio potter. His studio is located at the Eye of the Dog Art Center where he teaches classes and co-leads wood-firings in the large train kiln on site, and built a soda crossdraft downdraft kiln . Nick also teaches for the Art School at The Contemporary Austin located at their Laguna Gloria campus in Austin, TX.
